Newell Fonda's Season Ends in Quarterfinals

State touchdown leader Lane Spieker rushed for seven scores and 394 yards, leading CAM to a 64-13 win over Newell Fonda in an eight-player football state quarterfinal in Anita on Thursday. 

The Cougars scored on all six of their 1st half possessions.  They ran only 15 plays in the half, and the combined time of those drives was just 3:54.  CAM added a two-point conversion after each of those touchdowns, and led 48-6 at the half.  

Newell Fonda scored on their second possession.  The Mustangs went 56 yards in eight plays in three minutes.  Mason Dicks ran a two-yard touchdown.  Newell Fonda also found the end zone in the 4th quarter thanks to an eight-play 55-yard drive.  Ty Tauber capped it with a one-yard touchdown run. 

CAM tallied 451 yards of offense compared to 317 for the Mustangs.  CAM's defense had three takeaways, and their offense played turnover free. 

Dicks carried the ball 19 times for 97 yards, and passed for 142 yards.  Ryan Greenfield had six catches for 86 yards, Trey Jungers caught three for 30, and Beau Wilken added two receptions. 

CAM (11-0) will take on Audubon in a semifinal game next Wednesday at the UNI-Dome.  The other eight-player semifinal has Remsen St Mary's taking on Easton Valley. 

Newell Fonda finishes at 9-2.  The Mustangs seniors include Wilken, Jungers, Will Pitstick, Jaron Vanderhoff, Seth Menke, Izak Baron, and Tyler Naughton.
