Frost Advisories in Effect For Area Counties Early Saturday

October 15, 2021 2:09pm

The National Weather Service issued a Frost Advisory for area counties tomorrow (Saturday).

Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, and Ida counties are among those under a Frost Advisory from 2 to 10am.  A Frost Advisory will be in effect from 2 to 9am for counties including Pocahontas and Sac.

People in those areas will need to protect tender plants from the cold.  Frost happens when temperatures get down to 32 degrees, and the killing frost that ends the growing season happens at 28 degrees.

State Climatologist Justin Glisan says the forecast doesn't show any signs of the potential for the hard freeze, though parts of the state, particularly further north, are in the time frame where that normally happens.
