Lakes Corridor Development CEO Speaks on Proposed Soybean Crushing Plant at BV Supervisors Comp Plan Public Hearing

Several safety and zoning concerns were raised regarding the location of a proposed soybean crushing plant just south of Lake Creek at the Buena Vista County Supervisor meeting this week during a public hearing for the county's comprehensive plan.

The section of land in Washington Township needs to be changed from agricultural to industrial for the project to proceed. Several people feel other issues should be resolved before zoning is addressed. Landauer was asked if there is any other site in BV County that the plant could be located on. Landauer said site selection typically lasts between six and 12 months, and 12 to 16 sites were evaluated within the county...(audio clip below  :17 )

At a previous Board meeting, Supervisor Paul Merten said that an area west of Alta was previously targeted for the plant, but the landowner refused to sell.

Next week at the Supervisors meeting, action is expected to be taken on the comprehensive plan, as well as on the first reading of the zoning change.
