October 13, 2021 10:51am

Several people again voiced their opinions at the Buena Vista County Supervisors meeting this week during a comprehensive plan public hearing.

The main issue is rezoning a section of land in Washington Township just south of Lake Creek for a proposed soybean crushing plant. The rezoning is one of five amendments that have been recommended by the county Planning and Zoning Commission for the Supervisors to approve.

A number of zoning and safety issues have been brought up about the proposed plant location. Lake Creek resident Neal Kuehl referenced the book “Lake Creek : The Impossible Dream”...(audio clip below  :42 )

Supervisor Don Altena said he deals with high traffic and noise around his Russell Street residence in Storm Lake...(audio clip below  :39 )

Next week, the BV Supervisors are scheduled to take action on the comprehensive plan, and also the first reading of the zoning change. At least one of the soybean plant developers is expected to be at the meeting next week.
