September 10, 2021 6:04am

Chase Boysen's 25 yard touchdown pass to Chase Cook on a 2nd and 19 play with 2:57 left proved to be the game winner in #7 in 2A Pocahontas Area's 20-15 win over Sioux Central in Pocahontas Thursday night.

Sioux Central's Ethan Mills ran the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown 13 seconds into the contest, and a successful two-point converstion made it 8-0.  Poky answered right back the first time they possessed the ball, going 67 yards in six plays, and Boysen's three yard touchdown run helped cut the Rebels lead to 8-7.

Early in the 2nd quarter, Boysen capped a 43-yard drive with a 14 yard touchdown run to put Poky on top 14-8, and that turned out to be the halftime score.

Sioux Central reclaimed the lead early in the 4th quarter, as they capped a 15 play, 74 yard drive that lasted 5:32 with a two yard touchdown run by Gibson Olson, and the ensuing PAT gave the Rebels the lead again at 15-14.

Both teams followed with a three and out possession, that led to the Indians game-winning drive.  Down by five, Sioux Central got the ball at their 39 yard line.  One first down moved the ball to the Poky 48 yard line, but Poky's defense held from there.

Poky had 331 yards of offense.  Boysen passed for 131 yards, and rushed for 87.  Cook accounted for all of the team's receiving yards on seven catches.  Alex Welander rushed for 80 yards.

Carter Boettscher, Mills, and Olson, combined to run for 187 yards for Sioux Central.  The Rebels had 215 yards of total offense.

The 3-0 Indians open district play at Spirit Lake next Friday, September 17th, while Sioux Central (1-2) visits Sibley Ocheyedan for their district opener.
