Newell man arrested Sunday for burglary

A Newell man was arrested Sunday at approximately 7:45 am. Storm Lake Police responded to a residential burglary in progress at 208 Cayuga Street in Storm Lake. Upon arrival to the area officers located the suspect on foot in the 200 block of East 2nd Street, identifying him as Marson Bernardo age 20 of Newell, IA. After further investigation police allege that Bernardo forcefully entered the victim’s residence and took property before being confronted by the homeowners.

Bernardo was taken into custody without incident at which time he was found to be in possession of burglary tools, stolen property, and a quantity of methamphetamine.  Police further allege that Bernardo was in possession of stolen property from a separate burglary to a residence in the 500 Block of Superior Street which occurred on approximately August 20th, 2021.

Bernardo was transported to the Buena Vista County jail where he was charged with the following, Burglary 1st Degree, a class B Felony; Burglary 3rd degree, a class D Felony; Possession of Burglary tools, an aggravated misdemeanor; Possession of stolen property, a simple misdemeanor; Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a serious misdemeanor; Public Intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.


Bernardo was booked and held on $36,600.00 bond.

This case remains under investigation by the Storm Lake Police Department.
