The Iowa Pupil Transportation Association has honored bus driver John Brostad for his 47 years of service to the Storm Lake Community School District. Brostad was recognized and received a plaque at the IPTA’s annual Summer Conference and Trade Show in Des Moines, held July 19-21. SLCSD Director of Transportation Nathan Beal nominated Brostad for the IPTA’s Longevity Service Award. The honor recognizes a school bus driver who has performed extraordinary years of service and exemplary dedication to the community and students on behalf of their school district.

“John has been a dedicated bus driver for the district for 47 years,” said Beal in his nomination. “He was one of the very few coaches that would drive his own team to their event. Even after retiring from coaching, he still requested to drive to all cross country events. This past year was a challenge for everyone, but that did not stop John from going above and beyond daily for the students on his bus.” Brostad began his career as a teacher, coach and bus driver with the Storm Lake Community School District in 1974. We are grateful for his continued service to our students and families! IPTA’s members include public or nonpublic school administrators, transportation supervisors, school bus maintenance personnel, school bus drivers, secretaries, dispatchers and driver trainers.
