Flawless defense, great pitching, and seven different players had at least one hit in Newell-Fonda's 4-1 win over Lisbon in the class 1A state championship game played Thursday evening in Fort Dodge.

The Mustangs took the lead in the first inning plating an unearned run off losing pitcher Ryleigh Allgood.  The Lions would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the 4th but the Mustangs came right back in the bottom of that inning when Mary Walker drew a one out walk, Sophie Stewart then singled to put runners at 1st and 2nd base.  McKenna Sievers then laid down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position, that's when Mia Walker laced a two-run double to right center field giving the Mustangs a 3-1 lead.  Mary Walker would later add an RBI single in the 5th to make it 4-1.

Freshman pitcher Kierra Jungers set down the final seven batters that she faced and picked up her 29th win of the year going all seven innings allowing one earned run on only three hits, while striking out six and walking three.

The championship is the Mustangs 2nd in school history with the other coming in 2008.

Jungers was named captain of the 1A all-tournament team while her teammates Bailey Sievers, Ella Larsen, and Mia Walker were also named to the all-tourney team.

Newell-Fonda concludes their championship season with a record of 38-4 and three seniors went out on a winning note, Larsen, Bailey Sievers, and Maggie Walker.
