Mustangs To Play For 1A State Championship

Anna Bellcock went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and Kierra Jungers pitched another good game and the Newell-Fonda Mustangs beat Southeast Warren 7-3 Wednesday putting them in the championship game at the 1A state softball tournament in Fort Dodge.

Jungers picked up her 28th win of the year as she pitched all seven innings giving up three runs (two were earned) on nine hits, she struck out seven and walked two.

Bellcock's second hit of the game was a two-out two-run single that capped off a four run 4th inning that at the time gave the Mustangs a 7-1 lead.  Ella Larsen and Mia Walker also had two hits in the game.

Newell-Fonda, now 37-4, will play Lisbon Thursday at 5pm for the 1A title.  Lisbon won their semi-final game 4-3 over Wayne which improved their season record to 37-8.  Newell-Fonda will try to win their second state softball title the first was in 2008.
