Storm Lake Man Arrested for Marijuana Possession, OWI, and Other Charges

A Storm Lake man has been arrested on charges including possession of a controlled substance and operating while intoxicated.

According to Storm Lake Police, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Sunrise Park Road for a speeding violation at approximately 8am on Thursday. The driver was identified as 30-year-old Tomas Olivo of Storm Lake.

While making contact with Olivo, officers observed an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Police further allege Olivo showed signs of alcohol impairment. A Buena Vista County Sheriff K-9 was deployed, and alerted to narcotics in the vehicle. Following a search, police located a quantity of marijuana inside the vehicle. Police were also advised by the owner of the vehicle that Olivo had taken the vehicle without permission.

Olivo was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Buena Vista County Jail for further testing. Olivo was ultimately charged with 2nd Offense OWI, and Operation of a Motor Vehicle Without Owner's Consent, both aggravated misdemeanors...and Possession of a Controlled Substance Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor. He was also issued citations for Driving While Suspended, Open Container of Alcohol, and Speeding, all simple misdemeanors.

Olivo was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a five-thousand dollar bond.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted in the incident by the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office.
