Several Reports of Hail in the Area Last Night / Heat Advisory Today

There were several reports of hail last (Wed) night in the area, as Meteorologist Andrew Kalin from the National Weather Service Office in Sioux Falls explains...(audio clip below)

Buena Vista County Emergency Management Coordinator Aimee Barritt said she has not received any reports of excessive damage due to hail. 

Storm Lake received two-tenths of an inch of rain last night, according to measurements taken outside the radio stations.  The Emerald Park area got four-tenths of an inch.

There was a half-inch of rain last night eight miles north of Alta, according to a report. 

The town of Odebolt received eight-tenths of an inch of rain last night, according to a report. Odebolt lost power last night, and they are still without power early this (Thur) morning. 


A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Storm Lake area today from 1 to 8pm. Heat index values of up to 106 are expected. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
