BVU, Midwest Christian Services unite through Strategic Partnership

Buena Vista University (BVU) and Midwest Christian Services, of rural Peterson, have entered into a Strategic Partnership that will benefit both organizations as they strive to build up the people and the areas in which they serve.

Under the agreement, Midwest Christian Services employees, as well as their spouses and dependents, may receive grant funding to lower the overall cost of education while enrolled in classes at BVU’s Storm Lake campus. Partner grant funding also lowers the cost per credit hour for students enrolled in BVU’s convenient online/hybrid undergraduate programs or the organizational leadership graduate program courses.

BVU professors and staff are also available for training programs, workshops, and more should officials with Midwest Christian Services seek those services and expertise.

“The Strategic Partnership with BVU allows our organization to offer education benefits to 30 employees and their loved ones, a great way for people to take the next step in advancing their career while empowering themselves and their communities,” says Midwest Christian Services Executive Director Deanna Scott, a BVU graduate. “We are thrilled anytime an employee seeks to continue their education. Through BVU’s Strategic Partnership, we see this happening more and more among our employees and their families at BVU, a place we know well.”

Midwest Christian Services, a Qualified Residential Treatment Program, provides services to males ages 8 to 18 in a three-building campus site surrounded by acres of recreational and garden areas. Staff members are constantly working to improve themselves and the physical campus as they work to uphold their motto of “Building Better Lives.”

The organization was founded in 1963 as a group of people from the Church of Christ discussed the formation of a “home away from home” for children. The residential treatment program is Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services (CARF) accredited. Staff also provide therapy and behavioral health intervention services. Midwest Christian Services has hosted interns from BVU in past years and looks to continue doing so in the future.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to extend educational benefits to those affiliated with Midwest Christian Services through BVU’s Strategic Partnership Initiative,” says Katie Smith, BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships. “BVU’s vision is that, through education, we can continue to help people better themselves, and make their communities and organizations that much stronger in the process.”
