Omaha Man Sentenced for Involvment in Child Custody Dispute Altercation in Storm Lake

One of the individuals charged with forcefully entering a residence on Oneida Street in Storm Lake last October, which resulted in several people getting injured, has received a ten-year suspended prison sentence in Buena Vista County District Court.
28-year-old Dmytro Smith of Omaha, Nebraska was sentenced for 3rd Degree Burglary, a class C felony. Three victims in the incident gave in-person statements to the court in favor of incarceration. The BV County Attorney also argued for a term of incarceration.
Smith and two others who are also from Omaha were accused of going to 227 Oneida Street regarding a custody dispute of a minor child. Storm Lake Police alleged that during the dispute, the three individuals forcefully entered the home and assaulted several occupants. A male victim suffered serious facial injuries, and two female victims received minor injuries.
Smith was arrested by Storm Lake Police on charges of 1st Degree Burglary, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, and Child Endangerment.
In addition to the suspended prison sentence, Smith was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for a period of three years.
