Poky Softball Holds on to Defeat Storm Lake

A seven-run 3rd inning proved desicive in Pocahontas Area's 10-7 win over Storm Lake on Tuesday in Pocahontas. 

Poky scored a run in the 1st on a two-out RBI single by Laura Hinners.  The Tornadoes tied it in the 2nd after a leadoff triple by Hailey Anderson, followed by an RBI safety squeeze by Holly Dierenfield. 

The Indians scored seven runs in the 3rd inning, as they had seven hits in that frame, and sent 12 batters to the plate.  Paige Melohn and Taelyn Blankenhagen each had two-RBI hits. 

Storm Lake scored three in the 5th, as Josie Hernandez had a two-RBI double, and Mallorie Jacobson added an RBI single.  Poky got two of those runs back in the bottom half. 

The Tornadoes put three more on the board in the 6th on RBI's by Hailey Anderson and Taylor Ripke.  Storm Lake got the tying run to the plate in the 6th, and also in the 7th with a walk and single with one out.  A fielders choice and then a flyout ended the game. 

Pocahontas Area had 15 hits.  Katrina Aljets went 4-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Melohn drove in a total of three runs.  Storm Lake tallied 11 hits, including three by Hernandez.  

Caroline Christians got the win in the circle by going the distance with three strikeouts.  

Poky's 3rd win in a row puts them at 4-8.  They play at Spirit Lake on Friday.  

Storm Lake (3-5) hosts Spirit Lake on Wednesday.
