Storm Lake Tyson Foods Awards Scholarships to Local Students

Tyson Foods Storm Lake facility has awarded one-thousand dollar scholarships to eight area students through their annual local scholarship program.

The scholarships will assist eight individuals with college or university education-related expenses, such as tuition, books, academic fees and room and board. Tyson awards scholarships annually to children of current Tyson team members based on student performance, involvement in school and in the community, and financial need.

“It’s extremely rewarding to support our local neighborhoods and help students in our own backyard have greater access to the opportunities to continue their education,” said, Lonnie Woock, Storm Lake pork plant manager, Tyson Foods. “Tyson is proud of our ongoing contributions that help serve communities where our team members work, live and play.”

Those that have been awarded a scholarship are Firtuna Berhe, Saw Moo, Morgan Heuton, Jaylen Saengchapheng, Victor Armando Tapia Bañuelos, Crosby Chanthavisouk, Alan Rodolfo Flores and Matthew Cummins...the children of Tyson team members Alem Gebrehiwot and Letay Gebresilassie, Ta Pee and Paw Ku Mu, Brad Heuton, Abel Saengchapheng, Victor Tapia, Bo Chanthavisouk, Rodolfo Flores and Alan Cummins, respectively.

Scholarships are one of the many ways Tyson supports its team members across the country. The company strives to ensure team members have the tools and resources they need to be successful such as on-boarding and regular training; a safe workplace; competitive compensation and benefits; and life skills training. Tyson also offers a variety of educational services for team members through its Upward Academy program.
