City Council Approves Professional Services Agreement for Fiber Optic System Improvements Project
May 04, 2021 9:12am
The Storm Lake City Council on Monday approved a professional services agreement with Bolton and Menk for the 2021 Fiber Optic System Improvements Project.
The fiber optic project is a continuation of a 2015 effort, and is a joint project between the City of Storm Lake, school district, and Buena Vista County to install a fiber network through the community. The project will result in the connection of various public buildings and infrastructure components via the installation of underground ducts and fiber optic communications lines.
Council member Tyson Rice wanted the City to make sure that fiber optic would not become obsolete in the future, since this is a big financial commitment.
There is an estimated 24-thousand dollar cost for design engineering and bidding services.
