Tornadoes knock off Monarchs for homecoming win

The Storm Lake boys soccer team bounced back with a 3-1 win over Denison-Schleswig.

The first half saw the teams doing battle on the defensive side, the Tornadoes came close a couple of times but could not find the back of the net. The Tornadoes broke the stalemate with 8:16 to go in the first half off of the Adriel Melendez goal. That was the third goal of the season for Melendez. The Tornadoes went to the half up by a score of 1-0.

The second half saw the majority of the scoring. The Tornadoes stuck early in the second half with a free kick from Deryk Hernandez that found the back of the net from nearly midfield with 31:10 to go. That gave the Tornadoes a 2-0 lead. The Monarchs would push one goal across on a free kick header to cut the lead to 2-1. The Tornadoes would ice the game with 3:52 to go with a Fernando Reyes goal, his sixth of the season. That gave the Tornadoes a 3-1 lead which would be the final

With the win the Tornadoes improve to 9-1, up next for the Tornadoes is #11 1A Western Christian on the road next Tuesday.
