Storm Lake Fire Fighters Respond to Apartment Building Fire
April 14, 2021 9:36am
No injuries occurred at an apartment building fire in Storm Lake early this (Wed) morning.
Storm Lake Fire Fighters were called to 317 East Lakeshore Drive shortly before 12:40am. Upon arrival, they entered the basement and extinguished a fire burning in a concealed space next to the basement stairs. Upon further investigation, it was determined that police officers that were on patrol heard smoke detectors coming from within the residence. Upon investigating the source, they observed smoke and embers coming through an exterior wall at ground level. After contacting the fire department, they evacuated residents from the building.
The fire was contained to the immediate area of origin. Fire damage was estimated at one-thousand dollars. The fire fighters were on scene for approximately one hour.
The cause of the fire is believed to be the result of carelessly discarded smoking material close to the structure.
The apartment building is owned by Larry and Barb Lucht of Storm Lake.
