School Board Approves Next Year's Budget, New Football Stadium Lights, New School Bus
April 08, 2021 9:14am
No comments were made during a public hearing, and the Storm Lake School Board at a special meeting on Wednesday subsequently approved the budget for the 2021-2022 school year.
The figures are the same that were presented to the Board a couple weeks ago. Superintendent Dr. Stacey Cole said they've been listening to the public, and tried to put a little more in income surtaxes, which will be 528-thousand dollars, compared to 466-thousand in the current school year.
The tax levy will go up by only tenths of a cent to $17.17.
In other business...the Board approved the purchase of new lights for the high school football field for nearly 94-thousand dollars
District COO Jeff Tollefson said the new lights will hopefully be installed in July. Dr. Cole said the project is being covered by the district's five-year plan.
The Board also approved purchasing a new 84-passenger school bus for nearly 123-thousand dollars.
The Board also approved disposing of the district's old charter bus for salvage. Tollefson wasn't sure how many miles are on that bus, but did say that it has the most miles of any bus in the entire state.
