Approximately 48-Hundred BV County Residents Have Completed Their COVID Vaccine Series

March 30, 2021 10:29am

At the Buena Vista County Supervisors meeting this (Tues) morning, Public Health Administrator Julie Sather said that approximately 48-hundred county residents have completed their COVID vaccination series, with 18-hundred of those residents ages 65 and up.

Around 14-hundred county residents have started their two-dose series. About 550 of those are ages 65 and up.

Sather said Public Health has been doing outreaching this week, and have vaccinated staff and clients at Imagine The Possibilities. Booster clinics are being held in Storm Lake and Sioux Rapids for those 65 and up. 400 more Tyson Pork employees have requested vaccine, and those are being done this week and next week.

Supervisor Rhonda Ringgenberg said she's heard good things about how organized the local vaccination clinics have been.

Sather said Public Health is working with BVU, BVRMC, and local clinics on a vaccine campaign to determine what information needs to get out to include other groups to reach a more diverse population. They've reached out to the state to see if they can qualify for another round of the single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which is primarily being used for ag manufacturing and production workers.

Sather said vaccinations are still expected to be available for the general public starting next Monday, April 5th. BV County's allocation for next week will be determined tomorrow (Wed).
