Traffic stop leads to two men being arrested for multiple charges

Approximately 4:30 pm on Sunday a Storm Lake Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at C-49 and Hwy 71 for a traffic violation. Following that a Storm Lake Police K9 was deployed and alerted to an odor of narcotics in the vehicle. After a search, police located approximately a half-pound of marijuana and packaging material in the vehicle. The two occupants were identified as William Richard Cole, age 31 of Laurens, and Francisco Escareno, age 52 of Davis, California. Both Cole and Escareno were charged with the following: Controlled Substance Violation, a Class D Felony; Failure to Affix Drug Tax Stamp, a Class D Felony; Keeping Premises or Vehicle for Controlled Substance Use, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
Cole and Escareno were transported to the Buena Vista County Jail where they were booked and held on a $12,300 bond.
