School Board Miscellaneous

The Storm Lake School Board at a special meeting on Wednesday accepted a bid to pave the south portion of the High School parking lot.

Two bids were received, and School District COO Jeff Tollefson recommended the board accept the low bid from Smith Concrete of 112-thousand 450 dollars. The project will start after school gets out this spring.

Tollefson said this is Phase Two of Five for the district's parking lot paving plan. He said some issues are arising at the Elementary parking lot, which might lead to taking a year away from additional work at the High School lot, depending on where more attention is needed, which will be determined at the end of this year.

The Board approved the exterior building signage for the new Early Elementary School, as they previously requested alternate options with possible bigger lettering.

Tollefson asked the DLR group to enlarge the sign next to the canopy. The “Early Elementary School” lettering is being increased from 12 to 16 inches. “Storm Lake Community School District” lettering centered underneath will be eight inches. The lettering will be light aluminum against a black, brick wall.

The cost of the new Early Elementary signage remains the same.
