Boyden Hull Defeats OA-BCIG in Substate Final

In a matchup of the two highest ranked teams in Class 2A, defending champion and #1 Boyden Hull downed OA-BCIG 60-48 in a substate final Saturday night in Sheldon.  

The 1st quarter produced six lead changes and four ties.  Boyden Hull was ahead 15-13 after eight minutes of play.  OA-BCIG began the 2nd quarter by tying the score at 15-15, but the Comets put together a 9-0 run from there and never looked back, taking a 29-19 lead at halftime.  

Boyden Hull got the lead to 11 early in the 3rd.  The Falcons closed the quarter strong on a 5-0 run to get within 38-36.  Boyden Hull responded with a 12-4 start to the 4th quarter to bump the lead to ten.  With 2:04 left, Cooper DeJean made one of two technical foul shots, and then scored a low post basket five seconds later to pull OA-BCIG within 52-48.  Boyden Hull though scored the last eight points, all of them free throws, for the final margin.  

Cooper scored 12 of his team-leading 21 points in the 4th quarter.  Beckett DeJean tallied 14 points, 11 of which were scored in the 3rd quarter.  The Falcons finish at 21-2.  They'll say goodbye to five seniors, including Cooper, Preston Gill, Eric Sibenaller, Cam Sharkey, and Ahren Van Dusen.  

Boyden Hull returns to the state tournament with a 24-0 record.  They were led by Tanner Te Slaa with 25 points.
