The Newell-Fonda girls basketball team scored 50 first half points and cruised to a 75-37 win over CAM in a class 1A regional final played Wednesday night at Jefferson.

CAM never had a chance against the Mustangs defense which had 28 steals in the game and the offense took advantage to build their 34 point halftime lead.

Ella Larsen scored 12 points while Maggie Walker, Macy Sievers, and Bailey Sievers each scored 11.

The two-time defending 1A state champions will be the #2 seed in next weeks state tournament and will take on Kingsley-Pierson in a first round game next Wednesday night at 6pm at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Both teams are 23-1.  The two teams last played in a 2017 regional final, a game K-P won 76-75.

For coach Dick Jungers, he will be taking his 12th team to state in the last 18 seasons, his teams have reached the championship game in six of the last nine years and seven of the last thirteen.
