The Alta Aurelia School District is having a PERL Levy Election next Tuesday, March 2nd.

PERL stands for “Public Education and Recreation Levy.” Alta Aurelia School Board President Jen Kaskey says it can be used for public places and playgrounds, school buildings, and more. Kaskey says the Board can levy for up to 13.5-percent...(audio clip below)

If approved, the PERL levy would go into effect at Alta Aurelia starting in the 2021-2022 school year. It would generate approximately 70-thousand dollars per year to support new playground equipment, before and after school programming, summer school programming, and community education programs. 31 school district in Iowa currently levy for PERL.

Kaskey says if it passes, they plan on adjusting some of their other levy rates so that it's not very noticeable, and hope to keep it tax neutral...(audio clip below)

Kaskey added if other levies were kept the same, and they levied for the full PERL amount...a one-thousand acre farmer would see an increase of about 163-dollars a year...and a two-thousand acre farmer would see an increase of approximately 327-dollars a year, based on the average Buena Vista County valuation assessment.

The Alta Aurelia PERL Levy Election on March 2nd would pass with a simple majority.
