BV County Public Health COVID Vaccination Update

February 22, 2021 8:19am

There was a flurry of COVID-19 vaccine activity in Buena Vista County last week, according to Julie Sather of BV County Public Health.

A total of 750 vaccine doses were administered in the county last week in Phase 1B, including those 65 and older, and other individuals that fall into Tier One. Of the 750 vaccinations, 678 started their vaccination series, and 72 completed them.

Storm Lake Community School District staff, as well as Alta Aurelia and Sioux Central staff members were vaccinated last week, along with some daycares and early childhood education centers. Approximately 50 people age 65 and up that were on the Public Health's waiting list were vaccinated during a clinic.

Tier Two vaccinations are approaching, which will include individuals with disabilities living in home settings that are dependent on attendant care staff and their attendant care staff. If anyone knows someone that meets this criteria, they are encouraged to contact the Buena Vista County Public Health office.

The second group in Tier Two are frontline essential workers in the food, agricultural, distribution, and manufacturing sectors who work in or live in congregate settings that do not allow for social distancing. BV Public Health is working with area businesses that meet these guidelines to determine a vaccination plan for their qualifying employees.

BV Public Health continues to receive 300 prime doses allocated from the State per week to divide among vaccine providers in the county. Last week Hy-Vee received 200 doses from the Federal allocation.
