St. Mary's Girls Get First Ever Win Over SCC ; Double-Header Split in Rockwell City

The Storm Lake St. Mary's girls basketball team scored their first win ever against South Central Calhoun, upsetting the 10th-ranked in Class 2A Titans 67-55 on Friday night.  SCC won all six previous meetings. 

The Titans scored the opening two points, but that turned out to their only lead.  St. Mary's had a 10-6 lead after the 1st quarter, and then proceeded to score seven straight points to open the 2nd quarter to gain what was their biggest lead of the 1st half.  The Panthers were up 28-20 at halftime. 

St. Mary's scored 21 points in the 3rd quarter to open up a 16-point lead, and stretched the lead as high as 22 during the 4th.  

Sydney Hurd had a monster game in the blocks, finishing with a career-high 35 points.  Next in line for the Panthers were Danika Demers with 15, Emily Nothwehr had 13, and Ellie Bacon added 4.

Kylee Schleisman led South Central Calhoun with 14, as the Titans are now 9-2, and 2-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference.  St. Mary's 5th win in a row puts them at 7-2, and 4-1 in the TLC.  

 

The South Central Calhoun boys pulled away for a 63-26 victory over St. Mary's. 

The lead changed hands four times early on.  SCC took the lead for good at 7-6, and led 16-8 after the 1st quarter.  The Titans went on a 24-0 run from late in the 1st quarter until just before halftime to gain command.  

Brennan Holder had 14 points for SCC, and Cole Corey had 13.  The Titans improve to 8-2 overall, and stay unbeated in the Twin Lakes with a 4-0 mark.  

Mason Laven dropped in 20 for St. Mary's, as the Panthers are now 1-8, 0-5 TLC.  

The St. Mary's teams host Alta Aurelia next Tuesday, and they'll be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM.  

The South Central Calhoun teams entertain Humboldt next Tuesday.
