St Mary's Panthers split doubleheader with AR-WE-VA Rockets

The Storm Lake Saint Mary's Panther girls beat ARWEVA 63-43 while the boys fell 53-32.

The Panther girls found themselves down 2-1 early before they went on a 7-0 run to lead 8-2. The Rockets would cut the lead to 8-5, before the Panthers finished the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead after one 16-5.

The second saw the girls open a 3-0 run to lead 19-5. The Rockets would answer with a 12-6 run to get within 25-18. The Panthers closed out the half on a 8-6 run to lead 33-24 at the break.

The second half saw the rockets close the gap to 33-29. That would be as close a they would get as the Panthers rattled of 15 straight to lead 48-29 after 3. The teams would trade baskets down the stretch to finish with a final of 63-43.

Final numbers: Panthers lead by the Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Player of the Game Emily Nothwehr with 16 points, Sydney Hurd and Danika Demers both had 15, and Ellie Bacon had 11.

Panthers now 5-2 play at home vesus Whiting 1/7, Rockets now 1-8 at home versus Woodbine 1/5

 

The boys game saw point at a premium in the first half. The Panther boys jumped out to a 4-0 lead, the Rocket boys answered with a 10-4 run to lead 10-8 after one.

In the second the Rocket defense locked down and they went on a 12-0 run to lead 20-8 late in the second. The first Panther second quarter points came with 1:26 to go in the half. They scored three quick points to cut the lead to 20-11. The game went to the half 22-11 with the Rockets leading.

The Rockets again would strike fast in the third, this time a 13-2 run to lead 35-13. The Panthers finished the quarter on a 4-1 run to trail after 3 36-17.

The fourth saw the teams go basket for basket to get the game to 46-27. The Panthers would close the gap with a 5-2 run to get the score to 48-32. The Rockets scored the final five and the win 53-32.
