OA-BCIG Advances to Championship Game

OA-BCIG will play for another state title after their 43-21 win over Sigourney Keota in the Class 1A semifinals at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.  

The Falcons scored touchdowns on all four of their 1st half drives.  After forcing a punt on the opening series of the game, OA-BCIG went on an 11 play, 80 yard touchdown drive in four minutes.  The Falcons scored on a 4th and 1 quarterback sneak by Cooper Dejean to take a 7-0 lead.

The Cobras answered with a 12 play, 73 yard touchdown march, capped by a nine yard touchdown run by Sam Sieren to tie the game.  

A long kickoff return by Kolton Knop on the ensuing kickoff gave OA-BCIG the ball at the Cobras 45 yard line.  Two plays later, OA-BCIG was in the end zone again on a 36 yard touchdown pass from Dejean to Easton Harms to make the score 13-7.  

On the next drive, Harms intercepted a pass to set up a three play, 70 yard scoring march, as Dejean threw a ten yard touchdown to Harms to up the Falcons lead to 19-7 with 6:46 to go in the 1st half.  

Sigourney Keota put together a ten play, 76 yard touchdown drive, which ended with a Cade Molyneux five yard run to narrow the gap to 19-14.  

OA-BCIG got the ball back at their 37 yard line with 1:57 left in the half.  Faced with 4th and 28 at the opponents 38 yard line, Dejean threw a touchdown pass to Griffin Diersen with 18 seconds on the clock, putting the Falcons up 26-14 at the half.

The late 1st half strike was the start of 24 ananswered points by the Falcons.  OA-BCIG received the 2nd half kickoff, and that drive resulted in a 33 yard field goal by Caden Wareham.  

A fake punt attempt by Sigourney Keota was snuffed out when Geo Ehrig tackled the punter at the Cobras 25 yard line.  That was followed by back to back interceptions.  Dejean picked off a pass to give the Falcons the ball at their 28.  Nine plays later, they were back in the end zone on Dejean's 20 yard pass to Knop.  

After getting the ball back on downs deep in their own territory, Dejean connected for the third time with Harms on a 92 yard touchdown with 7:31 remaining to put the game on ice.  

OA-BCIG tallied 517 yards offensively.  Dejean was 21 of 34 through the air, with five touchdowns, and rushed for 73 yards and a score.  Harms had nine catches, 189 yards, and three touchdowns.  Cam Sharkey had six catches for 76 yards.  Ethan Shever led the defense with 10.5 tackles, and Zach Hemer had 10.  

Sigourney Keota's season ends at 10-1. 

Top-ranked OA-BCIG is now 11-0, winners of 24 straight games.  The Falcons, last year's 2A champions, will play Van Meter, also 11-0, for the 1A title next Friday at 10am.  It will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.
