Family Crisis Centers Representative Talks Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October 16, 2020 1:57pm

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Michelle James representing Family Crisis Centers says they provide advocacy services across 17 counties in northwest Iowa.

"All of our advocates are trained to provide support and information, along with referals, safety planning, protection orders, court accompaniment, and many more things along those lines.  We're also available to help in any crisis situations, and we help everybody explore the options that they have so they can explore the options for their situation."

James says Family Crisis Centers are available for anybody experiencing violence at home. She says all services are voluntary and confidential.

"If you reach out just to get some information and decide the services aren't right for you, or now is not the time...that's ok.  We're going to be here whenever you're ready.  We are a safe zone.  We know it's scary to call, but we're going to be here when you're ready.  Our advocates are ready to listen and help with choices, and they'll come out to you day or night."
