Spencer Takes Down Storm Lake In Friday Night Football

Jon Nissen ran for 148 yards and scored three second half touchdowns leading Spencer to a 42-18 win at Storm Lake Friday night.

The Tigers built a 14-0 lead at the half thanks to a 68 yard punt return for a score by Kenny Rasch and Karter Petzenhauser threw a 48 yard TD pass to Christian Hoofkin with less then ten seconds to play in the half.

The Tornadoes bounced back nicely in the 3rd quarter starting with Edgar Mendoza's 40 yard fumble return for a score, after the point after was blocked it was a 14-6 game. The Tornado defense would then force a three and out and give the offense the ball back at their own 44-yard line.  Five plays later quarterback Jake Eddie threw a 23 yard touchdown pass to Beau Boeckman, the two point conversion failed and it was 14-12 with three minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.

Nissen would bump the lead to 28-12 thanks to touchdown runs of 33 and 1 yard.  Eddie would return the ensuing kickoff to the Tigers 34 and a late hit put the ball at the Spencer 19 yard line.  On the next play Eddie threw a screen pass to Jailen Hansen who took it into the endzone for a touchdown, again the two point conversion would fail and the score was 28-18 with 10:24 left in the game.

On the next play from scrimmage Nissen went to the house from 64 yards out to make it a 35-18, and the Tigers Michael Jordan would later score on an eight yard run to make the final 42-18.

The Tigers had 278 yards of offense for the game compared to the Tornadoes 249.

Jake Eddie, making his first varsity start, completed 9-of-21 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns.  Hansen had five catches for 44 yards and Boeckman had 4 receptions for 78 yards.  The Tornadoes had 116 yards rushing led by Ben Raveling's 55 yards on 14 carries.

Storm Lake falls to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the district, the Tigers are now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the district.  Storm Lake will host Sergeant Bluff-Luton next Friday night at 7pm.
