September 11, 2020 5:44am
Buena Vista University and Wellman of Creston, have become Strategic Partners, paving the way for a host of educational benefits now available to 300-plus employees of Wellman, a leader in the production of aerospace castings.
Under the Strategic Partnership initiative, Wellman employees and their families are eligible for tuition discounts and/or grants in taking courses through BVU. Discounts are offered to qualifying students enrolled in BVU’s Online/Hybrid undergraduate programs, as well as students in BVU’s Online Organizational Leadership graduate program.
Additionally, those associated with Wellman may earn an annual grant if attending classes on BVU’s main campus in Storm Lake.
“We are excited to be among the businesses and manufacturing firms aligning with BVU through the Strategic Partnership,” says Jenny Robinson, Wellman’s Director of Human Resources. “The cooperative agreement presented by BVU can only serve to strengthen our workforce and our community through expanded educational opportunities that will allow our team members to grow and advance in their career. We certainly see this as a win-win situation.”
BVU professors and staff members will be made available to Wellman for training programs, workshops, and more. BVU has enjoyed a long working relationship in and around Creston through Southwestern Iowa Community College, a site for BVU instruction for decades.
Wellman, whose roots date back some 110 years, services some of the largest aerospace contractors in the world. The company strives to become the leader in total customer satisfaction through dedicated employee teamwork and customer-centric core values.
“Because of our employees and their commitment to excellence, we’ve been fortunate to build a great customer base while emerging as a leader in the industry,” Robinson says. “A Strategic Partnership with a great partner in BVU can only help our company improve its position in the future.”
“This is a wonderful development for BVU and for the employees and families of Wellman, in and around the Creston area,” says Katie Smith, BVU Director of Strategic Partnerships. “We’re so excited at BVU to work with Wellman to help strengthen the business and further enhance the communities in which the company’s employees live, work, and raise their families.”
