Storm Lake Man Arrested After Domestic Assault Report

A Storm Lake man was arrested on numerous charges after the Storm Lake Police Department received a belated report of a domestic assault this past Sunday.
A female victim alleged that on July 20th near the intersection of 610th Street and Highway 110 in Storm Lake, a man identified as 29-year-old Branlis Moreno Gonzalez, struck the victim in the head with his fist. The victim alleged when they attempted to contact police for help, Moreno Gonzalez took the victims phone and destroyed it. The victim was ultimately able to flee the area and did not contact police at that time. The victim further alleged that days after the assault on July 25th, Moreno Gonzalez sent a threatening text message to the victim.
After receiving the report from the victim, Storm Lake Police officers attempted to locate Moreno Gonzalez but were unable to at that time. Police ultimately applied for and secured arrest warrants for Moreno Gonzalez.
At approximately 10pm on Wednesday, officers located Moreno Gonzalez in the 1000 block of Lake Avenue and took him into custody without incident on Buena Vista County warrants.
Moreno Gonzalez was charged with two counts of Violation of a No-Contact Order, a simple misdemeanor...3rd Degree Harassment, a simple misdemeanor...5th Degree Criminal Mischief, a simple misdemeanor...Obstruction of Emergency Communications, a simple misdemeanor...2nd Offense Domestic Abuse Assault, a serious misdemeanor... and 1st Degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Moreno Gonzalez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a two-thousand bond.
The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Cherokee County Sheriffs Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriffs Department.
