Harpenau/Hawks Beat Mustangs In Substate Final

Blaine Harpenau pitched 6 1/3 innings and improved to 7-0 on the season helping Remsen-Saint Mary's beat Newell-Fonda 2-0 in a 1A Substate final played Tuesday night at LeMars.

Harpenau allowed only three hits while striking out nine and walking one.  With the pitch count in mind the Hawks had Skylar Waldschmitt come in and get the final two outs.  The Hawks are now 19-0 and will be making their fifth straight trip to the state tournament and 17th overall.

The Mustangs Hogan Henrich started the game and lasted two innings giving up two runs one of which was earned.  Tanner Gerke pitched four scoreless innings in relief giving up three hits and striking out five.

Henrich had a two hits including a double in the 1st, and Ryan Greenfield led off the 2nd with a two bagger for the Mustangs.  At one point Harpenau retired 13 in a row.

Newell-Fonda concludes the year 16-3.
