July 17, 2020 10:42pm

The Ridge View softball team scored seven runs in the 6th inning to complete a 12-2 six-inning thrashing of Hinton in a 2A region semifinal in Galva on Friday.

Hinton broke through with a run in the 2nd, but the Raptors took the lead for good in the 3rd with a sacrifice fly by Katie Pickhinke and an RBI triple from Addison Schmidt.

A sac fly by Shea Dutler in the 4th increased the lead to 3-1.  The Blackhawks closed the gap to 3-2 in the 5th, but Ridge View answered with two runs in the bottom half, as Schmidt had an RBI single and Morgan Todd drove in a run on a groundout.

The 6th inning included an RBI bases load walk to Autumn Henkel, an RBI single by Todd, a two-RBI single by Abby Wandrey, and then Anya Kistenmacher's RBI single was the game-ender.

The Raptors played errorless ball, turned two double plays, and Wandrey made a diving catch in leftfield in the 3rd.  Schmidt allowed six hits, struck out two, and didn't walk anyone.

Ridge View's third postseason win puts them at 10-8, as they end Hinton's season at 9-6.

Ridge View will play in a region final for the second year in a row.  The Raptors will play in Larchwood against West Lyon on Monday night at 7pm with a state tournament trip on the line.  The game will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.  West Lyon beat West Sioux 12-2 in their region semifinal.
