July 10, 2020 11:39am

A Storm Lake woman and a passenger were injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident that happened shortly after 7:15pm on Tuesday in the 4600 mile of Highway 71 in Clay County.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Rosa Guardiana Escamilla of Storm Lake was driving southbound on the highway in a 2005 Dodge Dakota pickup. Escamilla lost control of the vehicle due to an excessive amount of weight in the truck bed, which caused the vehicle to lose traction and it entered the east ditch. The vehicle proceeded to roll and land on its tires facing northwest.

Escamilla, as well as a passenger, were evaluated and transported to the Spencer Hospital for suspected head and neck injuries. A total loss of damage was done to the vehicle. Escamilla was cited and released for Driving or Towing an Unsafe Vehicle, a simple misdemeanor.
