Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Storm Lake Early Elementary Building

July 10, 2020 10:58am

Members of the Storm Lake School Board were on hand this morning (Fri) for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new Early Elementary Building just north of Hope Evangelical Free Church on the west end of town.

Superintendent Dr. Stacey Cole is excited to see the project finally taking shape.

"I'm just extremely grateful to our community for recognizing the space needs that we have at our Elementary and Middle Schools.  To be out here today at the site, and to actually feel like it's going to be a dream come true is absolutely amazing.  I'm just continually grateful for the opportunities that are kids are now going to have, based on the fact that we'll have more space to teach them well in."

Nick Mathistad is the Vice President of W.A. Klinger out of Sioux City, who is constructing the building.  He said they have just gotten started stripping the soil,  and they'll start footings late this summer.  By the end of this year, most of the masonry will be up, and they'll work on getting most of the building closed in.

The new Storm Lake Early Elementary School is scheduled to open in the middle of the 2021-2022 school year.
