Mark Eddie tossed a complete game one-hit shutout and struck out twelve Cherokee batters Monday night as Storm Lake cruised to an 8-0 victory in Lakes Conference action.

Eddie was hit by a pitch in the first inning and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Ben Raveling. Eddie later doubled to lead off the third inning and scored on a throwing error. Jailen Hansen walked and would eventually steal home to give the Tornadoes a 3-0 lead. Later in the frame Jake Eddie singled then scored on an Edgar Barriero double before Barreiro was driven in by Hunter DeMey’s two-out single.

On the mound, Eddie didn’t allow a baserunner through the first four innings but a walk, an error, and the only Cherokee hit of the night loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth. However a groundout ended the threat and the Braves would not put a man on base for the rest of the night.

Storm Lake added three more runs in the sixth inning. Sam Dvergsten led off with a single and Kevin Lopez reached base on a throwing error that allowed Dvergsten to score. Mark Eddie then ripped his second double of the night, scoring Lopez before crossing home plate himself on an RBI single from Raveling.

Jake Eddie collected three of Storm Lake’s nine hits as part of a 3-4 effort while Mark Eddie went 2-3 with three runs scored.

Storm Lake is now 3-5 (2-3 Lakes) and will host Akron-Westfield on Tuesday. The Tornado junior varsity team moved their record to 8-0 with a 10-0 victory over Cherokee earlier in the evening.
