June 19, 2020 9:39pm

Despite having only two hits in the game the Spencer baseball team beat Storm Lake 5-3 Friday night at Storm Lake.  Ethan Heiter threw the first 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win and Devin Dirkx pitched the final 3 1/3 to notch the save.  Dirkx retired the first nine batters he faced until Jake Eddie picked up an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Mark Eddie followed with a single to right field, Jake Eddie made it to 3rd base easily and the throw in went all the way to 3rd base allowing Mark Eddie to take 2nd base. Dirkx would then fall behind Ben Raveling missing the strike zone on three straight pitches but he came back and struck him out on a 3-2 fastball to end the game.

Storm Lake had a season high seven hits led by both Eddie's collecting two each.  Jailen Hansen suffered the loss as he pitched two-plus innings giving up four runs but only two were earned.  Jake Eddie pitched 3 1/3 allowing one unearned run, and Mark Eddie threw the final 1 2/3.

Storm Lake falls to 0-3 and Spencer improves to 2-0.

The Storm Lake softball team beat Spencer 7-4, their second straight win as they are now 2-1.  Both Tornado teams will play at Hinton on Monday.
