March 23, 2020 2:06pm

The Storm Lake Community School District has named Jay Anderson as its next activities director, starting in the 2020-21 school year.

Anderson is currently the director of student services at Storm Lake Elementary School, where he previously served as a fourth-grade teacher. He is also the former head football coach at Buena Vista University.

“I believe that my experiences as a head football coach and as the student services director here in Storm Lake have prepared me for this leadership position,” Anderson said. “Success in any organization starts with building relationships. In this case, it’s with coaches, directors and students. I want to learn the goals of these groups and assist them in meeting those goals.”

SLCSD offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities for its students. This includes art club, key club, Green and White Club, National Honor Society, student council and many others. In terms of athletics, students can take part in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball and more.

“We are very pleased to share that Jay Anderson will become our new activities director,” said Dr. Stacey Cole, SLCSD superintendent. “Jay has a strong rapport with staff and students and is outstanding when it comes to building relationships. We are excited for him and our entire school district community.”

Anderson will succeed Ty Seaman, who is retiring after 27 years with the district.

“We would like to thank Ty for his dedication and service to the Storm Lake Community School District over the years,” Cole said. “He has done a terrific job overseeing the success and growth of many activities for our students.”

Anderson will officially begin his activities director duties on July 1st.
