Tornadoes split double-header with E-L-C

The Storm Lake boys basketball team started the new year with an exciting 80-75 win over visiting Estherville-Lincoln-Central Friday night. 

Storm Lake led 38-34 at the half and extended that lead to 55-44 after three quarters.  E-L-C would not go down quietly as they fought back from a 15 point deficit with 2:48 to go, cutting it down to 76-72 with less than thirty seconds to play but that is as close as they would get. 

Mark Eddie buried six 3-pointers in the first half and scored a team high 19 points leading three Tornadoes in double figures.  Jesus Soto added 15, and Sam Slight came off the bench and chipped in with 12.

Izaak Sander led E-L-C scoring 19 of his game high 26 points in the second half.  The Midgets fall to 3-4 overall and 0-4 in the conference.  

Storm Lake is now 4-3 overall, and 3-1 in the Lakes and will play again next Friday at Hull-Western Christian.

The E-L-C girls picked up their seventh win of the season defeating Storm Lake 96-42.  Kaitlyn Tendal poured in 34 points and made six of the Midgets fifteeen 3-pointers on the night.  E-L-C is now 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Storm Lake was led in scoring by Amy Slight and Holly Dierenfield as they each scored nine points.  The Tornado girls fall to 0-8 on the year.
