Newell Fonda Teams Beat Poky

The 2nd-ranked Newell Fonda girls basketball team pumped out 57 points in the 1st half, on their way to a 78-23 win at Pocahontas Area on Tuesday.  

The Mustangs (3-0) were led by Maggie Walker with 17, followed by Macy Sievers 15, and Bailey Sievers 14.  Kaylee Shivers and Jordan Saunders each had 7 for the Indians, as they fall to 2-2.  


The boys game proved a much tighter battle, but Newell Fonda came on strong in the 2nd half to defeat Poky 74-60.  

The Indians were up 20-17 at the end of the 1st quarter, but Newell Fonda took a 36-33 advantage into halftime.  The Mustangs controlled the 3rd quarter, outscoring Poky 23-10 to open up the lead, and the Indians got no closer than eight after that.  

Trey Jungers and Aden Mahler each had 17 for the Mustangs, as they improve to 3-0.  Pocahontas Area was led by Christian Davidson with 22, as they are now 1-2.  

The Newell Fonda teams host Spirit Lake on Thursday.  

The Pocahontas Area teams next play on Friday at Alta Aurelia.
