Hawks run past Minnesota

Sophomore Joe Wieskamp and junior Luka Garza combined for 44 points to lead the University of Iowa men's basketball team to a 72-52 rout of Minnesota on Monday night on Mediacom Court inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
It was Iowa's sixth win in the last seven meeting against the Gophers in Iowa City.  The Hawkeyes improve to 7-3 overall, 1-1 in Big Ten play.
The Hawkeyes led 37-29 at the half before dominating the final 20 minutes.  Iowa limited Minnesota to 23 second-half points and held the Gophers to a seven-plus minute drought late in the second half.  The Gophers made 10 field goals in the second half and shot just 36.8 percent for the game.
Wieskamp matched his season-high with a 16-point first half before finishing with 23 points.  He made 8-of-15 field goals with a season-high five 3-pointers.  It was his fifth career 20-point game.

he Hawkeyes return to action Thursday, traveling to Ames, Iowa, for an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series matchup at Iowa State.  Game time is set for 7 p.m. from Hilton Coliseum.
