Alta Aurelia at SLSM Basketball Recap

The Alta Aurelia boys only trailed briefly early on in their 76-37 win at Storm Lake St. Mary's on Friday night.  

The Warriors led 17-7 after the 1st quarter, and built a 15 point advantage during the 2nd quarter.  St. Mary's rallied to get within six, but Alta Aurelia closed the 1st half scoring by making three from downtown to take a 33-18 lead into the half, and the Panthers never got closer after that.  

Logan McCoy (17 points) and Trey Englemann (15) led the charge for Alta Aurelia, and Teagan Meyer chipped in 11.  The Warriors are now 1-1.    

SLSM (0-1) was led by Sam Peters with 20.  Chase Hurd added 10. 


The St. Mary's girls won their opening game of the season 48-39 over Alta Aurelia.  

There were six lead changes in the 1st quarter alone.  Alta Aurelia led 13-10 after the opening eight minutes.  The Panthers went on an 8-0 run to end the 1st half, to take a 23-20 lead.  

Alta Aurelia bounced back to take a 34-31 lead after the 3rd.  Emily Nothwehr hit a three to open the 4th quarter scoring, followed by two baskets by Danika Demers, and another by Ellie Bacon that capped a 12-0 lead to give the Panthers the lead the rest of the way. 

Demers had 21 points, and Nothwehr had 15.  

Alta Aurelia (0-3) was lead by Jenna Nielsen with 15 points.  The Warriors teams host Sioux Central on Tuesday.  

The St. Mary's teams are home on Tuesday against GT-RA.
