Storm Lake Baseball Comes Up Short to Open Season

May 21, 2019

Hinton defeated Storm Lake 5-3 at the Tornado/BVU field on Monday night in the season opener for both baseball teams.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th, when Drew Price scored on a sacrifice fly foul-ball off the bat of Kayfrin Pelep.  Hinton answered back with two runs in the 5th.  The Blackhawks added to their lead with a run in the 6th.  Storm Lake responded when a groundout by Ben Raveling produced a run in their half of the 6th, but Hinton tacked on two more runs in the 7th.  An RBI single by Pelep in the Tornadoes half of the 7th made it 5-3, and Storm Lake had the bases loaded with one out, but back to back strikeouts allowed Hinton to hang on.

Hinton outhit Storm Lake unofficially ten to five.  Each team squandered chances, as Hinton left ten on base, and Storm Lake stranded nine, including eight over the last three innings.

Storm Lake is scheduled to play at Sioux City West on Tuesday night.
