Delays Cost Paving Contractor
February 03, 2016
Liquidated damages due to delays in construction have been assessed to the contract for the widening of West Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake.
Public works director Jason Etnyre told the city council this week Blacktop Services of Humboldt did not meet the completion deadline for the three-lane widening project. The 21 days are valued at 12-hundred dollars a day… and 25-thousand-200 dollars has been deducted from the contract with Blacktop Services. The final price of the contract is 974-thousand dollars.
Last month, the council approved an additional 25-thousand dollars to the original contract with Bolton and Menk Engineering due to various delays including re-bidding the project.
There’s another potential change order for the project… as the pavement isn’t as smooth as required in the contract. Etnyre says Blacktop Services has a contractor lined up to bring it up to specs this spring. He notes final cleanup and seeding also needs to be done.
