Rolfe Man Arrested Following Assault, Gun Discharge in Residence

A Rolfe man was arrested earlier this week after a handgun was fired as part of a domestic incident.

Shortly after 2:50am on Monday, the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office was called to the residence at 1106 Elm Street in Rolfe. An investigation determined that an assault had taken place in which multiple firearms were involved. According to the sheriff’s office, evidence showed that the firearm that discharged was likely done in self-defense.

44-year-old Clinton Wheeless of Rolfe was arrested and charged with Going Armed With Intent and Domestic Assault Impeding Airflow, both class D felonies. He was booked into the Pocahontas County Jail. Additional charges are pending. A female at the scene was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Pocahontas.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Pocahontas Police Department, the Laurens Police Department, and the Pocahontas Ambulance.
