Apartments Evacuated After Report Of Smoke

An Storm Lake apartment building was evacuated Monday evening after the fire department received a report of smoke in a hallway and children possibly trapped in an apartment.

When police officers arrived at 1409 North Seneca, they encountered smoke in the hallway, which caused a burning sensation when breathing. Police proceeded to the apartment in question and forced entry. Police determined no one was in the apartment, then assisted in evacuating the complex.

Firefighters were unable to locate the source of the smoke in the hallway. Fire fighters ventilated the complex and determined it was safe for residents to re-enter. There was no fire and no damage.

The fire department was on the scene for about a half-hour, and assisted by police and Buena Vista County Paramedics.
