Heat Assistance Sign Up Underway
November 23, 2015
Low-income renters and homeowners are being reminded that applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, are being accepted between now and April 30th, 2016.
The program was established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs during the winter heating season. The program isn’t designed to pay a household’s total energy costs. Instead it provides supplemental assistance based on total household income, household size, dwelling type, type of heating fuel, and other factors.
Anyone who has applied and been approved for this season cannot re-apply. For questions and to arrange an appointment to sign up… in Buena Vista and Pocahontas Counties, contact Upper Des Moines Opportunity… in Sac County, contact New Opportunities… and in Ida and Cherokee Counties, contact Mid-Sioux Opportunity.
