BV County Joins Green Ribbon Program

November 23, 2015

The Buena Vista County Supervisors have approved spending 35-hundred dollars in hopes of getting grants for trails and parks.

Ted Kourousis of Northwest Iowa Planning and Development says funds will be available through the Iowa Parks Foundation Green Ribbon Program. A one-point-nine million dollar grant fund is available… and a committee has been developed in six northwest Iowa counties. He says the next step is assessment… and they’re hoping for a 20-thousand dollar grant, which would require a 20-thousand dollar local match, or 35-hundred dollars per county.

Kourousis says funds could be used for trails, parks, improvements to the Little Sioux River corridor, and soil conservation to prevent erosion. The plan can also be used to apply for other grant opportunities.

In addition to Buena Vista… other counties involved are Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, O’Brien, and Palo Alto.
